Biomophic shapes: 'Our feeling for beauty is inspired by harmonious arrangement of the order and disorder as it occurs in natural objects – in clouds, trees, mountain ranges or snow crystals. The shapes of all these are dynamical processes, jelled into physical forms and particular combinations of order and disorder' [Gleick, 1987: 117]

These are a series of photographs of three-dimensional forms created during my MA Fine Art course at UCA, Canterbury (2011–2013).
Chaotic and ordered structure in natural forms inspired my investigation into various sculptural mediums and processes. I played with the juxtaposition of natural and synthetic materials to produce a series of maquettes to expose their aesthetic formal properties. The forms emerged and displayed a biomorphic quality, with the sense of arriving from 'another world'.
Forms and shadows: I extended my investigation by experimenting with light and dark, shadow and form. The photographs show the staging of various combinations of objects within a space with limited light, to expose their texture, structure and extended presence within a space via projected shadows.
